BUDD:E

Online Safety is something I take very seriously as a teacher and whether you are an Early Years teacher or a Secondary School Teacher BUDD:E is an excellent resource. It is an online website where students create an avatar and complete online safety games. The online version can be found here. Australian based teachers can also request a CD based version of the program, for offline use.

Online Safety Video

There are plenty of cyber safety videos and resources available on the internet, but videos that are relevant to kids are generally the types of videos that keep kids occupied. This Online Safety video will keep children interested, especially as it focuses on Facebook, it can be found here. There are many more videos in this series as well, all are worth watching.

Make your own classroom caddys

At the start of the year teachers always take a look at just what they can do to 'jazz' up their classroom. Well, by using a muffin pan, some plastic cups and a piece of magnet to the bottom of each cup you can create an awesome classroom caddy that's easy to move around, try making a few extras for portable art supplies. Your kids will love them!

50th Day of School

Some schools have begun celebrating a '50th' Day of School, as well as 100 Days at School. Mrs Stamp's Kindergarten has some excellent ideas for what to do with the kids on their 50th Day at School. You can find the blog here.

100 Days at School

I am aware that I just did a 100 Days at School post but the reason for the myriad of them is that the 100 Days in School is about to come up in America, so lots of resources are becoming available and I'm best of grabbing them now than searching for them in vain in August/September this year!. Check out some more activities at Technology Rocks.

Home Learning

We are no longer in a society where learning begins when a child starts at school and ends at 3:30pm. The Victorian Government has published a book, (which can be downloaded directly from here) which provides 201 Literacy and Maths tips to help your child at home. It is important to help your child at home as learning does not stop outside the classroom.

The Rainbow Fish - Powerpoint

I've mentioned before how much I enjoy the Rainbow Fish and how I feel that I could almost teach the story as a stand alone unit. So, to add to this I have added a Rainbow Fish powerpoint, which recreates the book in Powerpoint form, which is also great for the IWB. Download it from here.

2D and 3D Shapes in the Classroom

Getting children to look for 2D and 3D shapes in the classroom is a great way to engage students and get them looking 'beyond the box'. I've uploaded two sheets, one on 2D sheets and one on 3D sheets. You can download the 2D sheet from here and the 3D sheet from here.

Representing 10's

I know this is a very specific resource but you never know when it will come in handy. This sheet allows children to represent 10, which is something that some children do have trouble with. Download it from here.

Money - Going Shopping

This is a fantastic resource to use with the lower grades but it can also be used with older grades. If you print the attached document in A3 then grab some catalogues then children can 'go shopping' and be given a budget to spend. There is also a 'rounding' column, which can be removed for lower levels, but for older levels you can encourage children to round up or down. Download it from here.

My Favourite Book

I love finding new ways for children to respond to books and i've finally found my old files from when I was a Grade One teacher, so i'm going to start uploading some new 'older' resources. This is only one file but you can print it out and use it multiple times. Download it from here.

Mrs Pancake

Mrs Pancake is a fantastic site that provides wonderful educational resources for Teachers, Parents and Children. There aren't a lot of resources on the site, but all of them included are just absolutely stunning, half of my room is full of resources from Mrs Pancake. 99% of the resources on the website are free as well, which is even better. Making Sense of Money Virtual Manipulatives

Finding Australian money resources can be very difficult, I have found an excellent resourt from Rosetta Primary which can be found here. I'll let Rosetta describe it.

"The following virtual manipulatives were developed at Rosetta Primary School to help our year 2 & 3 students learn about the value of Australian coins.
Manipulatives are generally defined as concrete models that incorporate mathematical concepts, they appeal to one or more of the senses and can be touched and moved around by students, some examples are materials as simple as counters to more specialized materials like MAB 10 blocks. A virtual manipulative is a type of  computer-based learning resources that is a dynamic visual representation of a concrete manipulative that can be manipulated by the user.

One of the difficulties in working with money is that although coins and notes are concrete models of themselves, they are not proportional in relation to their values. The ability of the computer to dynamically link concrete and symbolic representations makes it an ideal medium for developing instruction related to teaching the value of money. "

This one page PDF contains the four seasons of the year with some nice pictures to accompany them. These can be used as a classroom display and can be downloaded here.

Pre School Writing Pages

These are Pre School Writing Pages which feature 8 different writing designs, they are very cool and can be used to stimulate writing in students. I am always looking for different writing options to keep writing 'interesting' and i'm hoping the 'Writing' tag will feature many of these cool resources.
Download it here.

Months of the Year

Included here is a one page document which can be download and mixed up to test your children on the Months of the year. It's not very visually appealing so I wouldn't use it for a classroom display but it's a good Numeracy activity.

Brain Food Chart

In Australia and in most classrooms Brain Food is a regular scheduled 'activity'. Children bring along brain food to eat during a scheduled time (normally in the morning).
